TWR Development History

The transpiring wall SCWO reactor ("TWR") was invented and first patented by Tom McGuinness, PE of Turbosystems Engineering Inc. Tom is a mechanical engineer with 30 years experience in the design, operation and troubleshooting of high performance machinery, including gas turbines, compressors, pumps and high-pressure process systems. Though SCWO reaction conditions are considerably different from those found in a gas turbine combustion chamber, it was evident to Tom that certain key principles might be usefully employed in SCWO reactor design. In 1993, Tom first modelled by CFD a fully-reacting SCWO TWR reactor operating at 250 bar. This work confirmed the existence of a turbulent diffusion flame reaction mechanism within the TWR.
